        Nizip, 45 kms to the city center, has an area of 1.031 square kilometers. Nizip is the biggest district after Şehitkamil and Şahinbey districts. According to the address-based population registration system of 2012, the total population of the city is 135.819, and the population of the city center is 100.488. Its location is in the Middle Mesopotamia plain created by Euphrates. In the history of Nizip, there had been settlements in the Paleolitic Age according to the findings from excavations.. Şehzade tumulus is a main settlement in the region in the Calcoholitic Age after Stone Age. Due to its geographical position throughout the history, Nizip has played host to many civilizations and governed by Turks (Tolunoğulları, Seljuks, Eyyubis, Memluks, Dulkadiroğulları). It was conquered by Yavuz sultan Selim in 1517. The war between Ottoman Empire and Egypt Governer on 23/24 June 1839 was called as Nizip War. In the district olive and pistachio industries and small industries are well developed.
